Privacy Policy
1. Overview
Recursio is a language-learning app that helps users save vocabulary, review words, practice grammar, and use AI-assisted learning features. This Privacy Policy explains what information Recursio may collect, how it is used, and how users can request deletion of their account and learning data.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information: sign-in provider, account identifier, and email address if provided by Apple or Google, and — only if marketing email was explicitly requested — a record of that consent (its timestamp and source).
- Learning data: saved words, vocabulary spaces, word states, grammar progress, practice history, recall progress, Coach sessions, AI Writing attempts, and related learning activity.
- AI practice content: text the user submits to Coach, AI Writing, AI Grammar, and similar learning features.
- Subscription status: plan level such as PRACTICE, SMART, or PRO, entitlement status, and store-related subscription identifiers required to unlock paid features.
- Technical data: app version, device/platform type, crash or diagnostic information if enabled later.
Recursio does not directly collect payment card details. Payments are processed by the App Store or Google Play.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide saved vocabulary and learning progress.
- To personalize recall, grammar, and Coach practice.
- To generate AI feedback, explanations, and practice tasks.
- To manage subscription access.
- To improve reliability and fix technical issues.
- To respond to support requests.
- To send course news and product updates, only if explicitly requested (see section 6).
4. AI Processing
Some user-submitted text may be processed by AI service providers to generate feedback, corrections, explanations, practice prompts, or conversation responses.
Users should not submit sensitive personal information in practice answers.
AI feedback may be imperfect and should be treated as learning assistance, not as a guaranteed authoritative correction.
5. Purchases and Subscriptions
Subscription purchases are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play. Recursio receives subscription entitlement information needed to unlock paid features, but does not receive full payment card details.
6. Marketing Email
Recursio sends optional marketing email — course news and product updates. It is sent only to people who explicitly asked for it. It is never a condition of using Recursio, of holding an account, or of taking the free Starter course.
Legal basis
Consent, given explicitly and separately. It is never bundled with account creation, with the Terms of Use, or with signing up for a course: the box is unticked by default, and leaving it untouched records no consent at all.
What is processed for it
- The email address already held for the account.
- The consent record: when consent was given and through which surface it was given.
Nothing else. Recursio does not build a behavioural profile for marketing purposes and does not track opens or clicks in these messages.
Processor
Marketing email is delivered by Resend — Plus Five Five, Inc., 2261 Market Street #5039, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States — acting as a data processor on Recursio’s behalf under Resend’s Data Processing Agreement in its 31 December 2025 version, entered into by accepting Resend’s Terms of Service.
For personal data of users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, transfers to the United States rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, Module Two (controller to processor), incorporated by reference into that agreement, together with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the Swiss modifications set out in it. Resend is additionally certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension.
Resend’s sub-processors are listed at resend.com/legal/subprocessors. Recursio is notified of any change at least 14 days in advance.
Withdrawing consent
Consent can be withdrawn at any time — with one click in any marketing message, or on the Email preferences page. Withdrawal is free and immediate, requires no explanation, and never affects the Recursio account, access to the app, the free Starter course, or any saved learning data.
Sign-in codes and other service messages are not marketing email and are not affected by withdrawing this consent.
Retention of the consent record
The record that consent was given is kept after withdrawal as evidence that the consent existed, which Recursio must be able to demonstrate. It holds the time consent was given, the surface it was given through, and the identifier of the one-time-code challenge that verified the address at that moment. It does not contain the email address itself.
It is kept for three years after consent is withdrawn, and never for longer than the account: if the account is deleted, the consent record is deleted with it (see section 9). Withdrawal itself takes effect immediately and does not wait for this record to expire.
Account deletion
When a Recursio account is deleted, the address is removed from the mailing processor, not merely unsubscribed there.
Apple private relay addresses
Addresses provided through Apple’s Hide My Email relay are treated as ordinary email addresses and are subject to the same consent rule: no consent, no message.
7. Data Sharing
Recursio does not sell user personal data.
Data may be shared only with service providers needed to operate the app, such as authentication providers, hosting providers, AI processing providers, app store payment systems, email delivery providers, or support tools.
8. Data Retention
Account-linked learning data is retained while the user account remains active, unless the user requests deletion or unless retention is required for legal, security, or operational reasons.
The marketing consent record is retained on the separate basis described in section 6.
9. Account and Data Deletion
Users can request deletion of their account and account-linked learning data through the Delete Account page or by contacting support@recursiolearn.com.
Deletion requests are processed within a reasonable period, typically within 30 days.
10. Children
Recursio is not intended for children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal information, they should contact support.
11. International Users
Data may be processed in countries other than the user’s country of residence, depending on service providers.
12. Changes to This Policy
Recursio may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date will be changed when the policy is updated.
