Adjetivos cortos y largos

Una sílaba suele llevar -er / -est. Los adjetivos largos suelen usar more / the most. Muchos adjetivos de dos sílabas usan more / the most, pero los que terminan en -y normalmente cambian a -ier / -iest.

cheap → cheaper → the cheapest
expensive → more expensive → the most expensive

happy → happier → the happiest · easy → easier → the easiest
Ortografía: big → bigger (dobla la consonante), nice → nicer (solo añade -r).

Formas irregulares

good → better → the best · bad → worse → the worst · far → farther/further → the farthest/furthest

than, the, y (not) as … as

Comparativo + than: She's taller than me.
Superlativo + the: It's the best day.
Igualdad: as … as: He's as tall as his brother / not as expensive as I thought.

Errores frecuentes

Combinar «more» con «-er».

more bigger · the most easiest
bigger · the easiest

Usar «that» en lugar de «than».

She's older that me.
She's older than me.

Omitir the antes de un superlativo. «This is biggest city in the country» → This is the biggest city in the country. Normalmente se usa the para destacar un elemento dentro de un grupo, aunque otro determinante puede sustituirlo: my best friend.

Ejercicio rápido

Escribe el comparativo o el superlativo.

  1. This bag is ___ (cheap) than that one.
  2. It's the ___ (good) movie I've ever seen.
  3. Today is ___ (hot) than yesterday.
  4. She's the ___ (intelligent) person on the team.
  5. My new phone is ___ (bad) than my old one.
Soluciones
  1. cheaper
  2. best (irregular)
  3. hotter (dobla la t)
  4. most intelligent (adjetivo largo)
  5. worse (irregular)
