Vocabulario Nivel A2

Transporte público en inglés: autobús, tren y billetes

Inglés para moverte en transporte público: catch the bus, billetes one-way y round-trip, get on y get off, change lines, errores frecuentes y ejercicio.

Take, catch, ride: los verbos

El verbo comodín es take. Puedes decir take the bus, take the subway, take a train: sirve para todo.

I take the subway to work — it's faster than driving. (en Londres: the Tube, the underground)
Hurry up — we can still catch the 8:15 bus!
I overslept and missed my train, so I was twenty minutes late.

También puedes decir go by bus / by train: es correcto y muy común, sobre todo al comparar opciones: It's cheaper to go by bus. Lo que no funciona es mezclar los dos patrones: o by bus o take the bus, pero nunca take by bus.

Billetes y abonos

¿Solo ida o ida y vuelta?

A round-trip ticket to the airport, please. (en inglés británico: a return; one-way = a single)
I ride every day, so a monthly pass saves me a lot of money.
Don't forget to tap your card when you get on — the fare is charged automatically.

El verbo, en cambio, sigue ahí: tap in, tap out.

Durante el trayecto: paradas, líneas y transbordos

La pareja clave: get on / get off. Con autobuses, trenes, tranvías y aviones se usan get on y get off.

Get off at the next stop — the museum is right across the street.
To reach the airport, change lines at Central Station and take the blue line.
Excuse me, which stop is it for the university? · Is this seat taken? · What time is the last train?

Si no sabes dónde tienes que bajarte, pregunta al conductor o a otro pasajero: Could you tell me where to get off?

Errores frecuentes

Get in the bus. Los vehículos pequeños usan in/out; los grandes, on/off.

✕We got in the bus at the last minute.
✓We got on the bus at the last minute. (pero: get in the car, get out of the taxi)

«I lost the bus».

✕Sorry I'm late — I lost the bus.
✓Sorry I'm late — I missed the bus.

Station vs. stop.

✕I'll wait for you at the bus station on the corner.
✓I'll wait for you at the bus stop on the corner.

«Take by bus».

✕I take by bus to work.
✓I take the bus to work. / I go to work by bus.
